What's new in the Scarlet & Violet Pokemon era

The Pokemon Company has officially introduced the next era of the Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG). The new era is based on the latest Pokemon games and now introduces us to Generation 9 in the TCG sector as well. The new era will start with the Base Set, named Scarlet & Violet, where we will be introduced to the new Paldea region. It is also important to note that with the start of the new era, several important card and product changes have been decided, which we want to explain to you in more detail in this short guide.

Overview of all changes starting from Scarlet & Violet

Yellow borders are being replaced

One of the most significant changes with Scarlet & Violet is definitely that cards of all upcoming international expansions will no longer have the usual yellow border that we have been used to since the beginning, but will now be color-matched to their Japanese counterparts. Now all Pokemon cards will feature a silver border.

3 guaranteed foil cards in a booster pack

With the new expansion Scarlet & Violet, it will be standard for all booster packs to contain 3 guaranteed foil cards. Previously, you could only get 2 guaranteed foil cards in a booster pack.

The familiar Pokemon EX mechanic returns

With the new era, new Pokemon, their designs, and also a new mechanic were introduced. This is the already familiar EX mechanic, so it should be exciting again.

The Pokemon TCG is getting more expensive

In the course of the new era, the Pokemon Company is increasing its prices for Pokemon products. This is justified by the current global situation. For example, the price is now expected to be $4.49 per booster instead of $3.99.

New card type confirmed

The Japanese equivalent to our Scarlet & Violet Base Set has already confirmed a new, previously unique card type. From now on, there will be so-called Tera Pokemon cards. There are no images of these yet, but several leaks have confirmed this.

Further changes to card design

With Scarlet & Violet, subcategories for Trainer cards such as Supporters, Items, and Stadiums are being added to the top left corner to simplify the card design. Energy cards will now feature an additional energy symbol in the bottom right corner. The top of the card now shows the name of the energy. The well-known set symbols will be replaced by smaller codes starting with Scarlet & Violet. The revealed Ex cards also now feature a so-called double-star rarity.

Conclusion

As you have certainly seen, there will be some, in part very large, changes with Scarlet & Violet. Whether it is the removal of the popular and proven yellow border or the change that every booster pack will now always contain 3 guaranteed foil cards. The decided price increase for Pokemon products is also likely to cause heated discussions among all Pokemon fans. But aside from all that, in our view, there are once again beautiful artworks and very interesting mechanics with the start of the new era of Scarlet & Violet, which may already seem familiar to some. Perhaps this will also reignite individual collecting passions.

Overall, you can definitely be excited to see what else Scarlet & Violet has in store. We are certainly looking forward to the new era.

Your opinion matters!

But what do you think? Are you also looking forward to the new era? What do you think of the leaks so far? Feel free to write something in our comments, we would be very happy about it.
