The new "Emergency" Yugioh Banlist for all active TCG players
It has been a long time since we experienced a single deck completely dominating the meta. This has been the case since the release of Magnificent Mavens but actually the case! Because Tearlaments (Tearful Lamentation) in combination with the new Ishizu Cards from the new Magnificent Mavens set dominate the Meta, and thus have the "Tier 0" Status reached.
At the very first major event following the release of Magnificent Mavens, 26 of the 32 Top Decks Tearlaments! Every player realized then that this was now the best coverage is in the current format. So it didn't even take 2 weeks for the players to find a so-called Emergency Banlist from Konami, because the next Yugioh Banlist was only planned for January.
Surprisingly, Konami has now actually released an Emergency Banlist, which will take effect starting 12/1/22.
However, this banlist has frustrated players more than it has pleased them, as not a single Tearlaments card was limited, let alone banned! Konami has shown a very peculiar strategy for weakening Tearlaments. Let's take a look at the Ban list on!
1. Banned
Curious, Lightsworn Dominion
Curious hasn't actually caused much damage in the current format, but it is a card that can become a problem at any time and has often been an issue in the past. Konami has removed it from the game for the time being as a preventative measure.
Mystic Mine
One of the most hated cards in the game! Mystic Mine has probably driven every Yu-Gi-Oh! player to despair. If you use this card correctly, your opponent can neither activate monster effects nor attack with their monsters! This basically means that the opponent can do absolutely nothing until they find a Spell Card or Trap Card draws to remove this card from the field. However, this is significantly more difficult nowadays than in the past, as more and more monsters are being played that simply have extremely powerful effects.
Players from all over the world wanted this card gone once and for all, and Konami has Yu-Gi-Oh! Community finally did this favor. However, this action also has a huge disadvantage, because Mystic Mine was one of the few cards that Tearlaments could more or less slow down!
2. Limited
A single card that was previously allowed at 3 copies has been limited to 1 with this banlist! And it is actually the only card that Tearlaments is being played!
Herald of Orange Light
This card is currently in combination with the new Ishizu Cards are extremely strong and are therefore also popular in Tearlaments. However, she is not a Mandatory card. This means that the Tearlaments players with this limitation have only lost a nice bonus and can therefore easily do without it. Because even before, Herald of Orange Light not by everyone Tearlaments players played.
3. Semi Limited
Even in this "list," there is only a single card that was previously limited to 1 and can now be played 2 times! This card is:
Lyric Songbird Performing Star
Even this change is not currently affecting the meta. However, it could become very exciting in the future, as the Lyrik Monster-loving with Sta-Brigade be played together and that "Star-Brigade" will also receive new cards in the future! Definitely a nice move on Konami's part.
4. Unlimited
Saving the best for last! Now we come to the best and craziest part of this banlist! Let's start with the 2 cards that changed the entire Yu-Gi-Oh! Community surprised us and were incredibly strong against Tearlaments are!
Dimensional Crack & Macrocosm
Yes! Stress crack and Macrocosm are for the first time in a very, very long time Unlimited! For many years, both cards were only allowed to be played at 1 copy per deck, and for good reason! This is because both cards essentially ensure that the graveyard no longer exists! But why is that so good? Quite simply: Tearlaments are incredibly strong, but they cannot use their effects without a graveyard! Both the Tearlaments cards, as well as the Ishizu Cards must first be in the Cemetery land!
Dimensional crack ensures that all Monster be removed from the game instead of being sent to the graveyard.
Macrocosm makes it even better! Because as long as Macro is active, in addition to the monsters, Spell Cards/Trap Cards removed from the game! Only one of the two cards is enough to Tearlaments to paralyze.
With these 2 cards, things are going to get very exciting in the future. One thing is for sure: as long as Tearlaments is on top, many players will be running these 2 anti-meta cards! This means Tearlaments players now have to get creative and make some sacrifices!
Because they will need several cards in their Main Deck to Spell Cards or Trap Cards can destroy!
The only downside is that these 2 cards affect both players. Therefore, they can only be played effectively if you are running a deck that does not rely heavily on the graveyard. That sounds like it wouldn't be a problem, but it is. There simply aren't many "capable" Decks, which can work effectively without a graveyard. But still, the rule is: "As long as it disrupts the opponent more than myself"! Because as long as Tearlements' hands are tied, you can live with the disadvantages!
But let's move on to the other Unlimited cards:
Metaverse
This card was also limited to 1 for a long time. It was primarily used to activate what is arguably the most annoying card (Mystic Mine) directly from the deck! Now that Mystic Mine is off the table, Konami has also immediately removed this card from the Limited list again.
Fire Formation - Tenki
Fire Formation - Tenki is now also a fairly old card that is often used in decks with Monster Warriors played. Because when this card is activated, you can add a Level 4 or lower one from your Deck directly to your hand! This card was most frequently used in combination with Sta-Brigade and Zoodiak played. So, once again, a card that will bring joy to Star-Brigade players in the future.
Sternritter Ptolemaeus
And that brings us to the last card on this list. Sternritter Ptolemaeus has also made it onto the Unlimited list. It is definitely one of the strongest Rank 4 XYZ monsters in the game. Naturally, this card is especially useful in a Sternritter Deck significantly stronger. Unfortunately, the Sternritter currently too weak to keep up with the meta decks. Still, another nice move by Konami for the future!
➡️ Conclusion
This so-called Emergency Banlist ultimately didn't do what a Emergency Yugioh Banlist actually should have done. Because the actual goal should have been to Tearlaments hitting cards directly, which Konami unfortunately did not do. Players will therefore have to settle for this for now and make the best of it. As already mentioned, most players will likely focus on Macrocosm and Stress crack focus. We are very excited about the upcoming major tournaments and will, of course, report on the results! Who knows, maybe Tearlaments suffering more from this banlist than expected!
