Konami releases the next Yugioh Master Duel banlist! Valid from 01.05.2023!
Konami has finally dropped the next banlist! This brings a total of 8 changes, and of course, at the top of the list is Tearlaments in focus! Will this change a lot, or will the meta stay as it is? Let's take a look at it together!
1. Banned Cards
Ultra Rare
Instantfusion
(1 ⇒ 0)
Generally, this card always tends to be a problematic one. However, since the release of Tearlaments in Master Duel, this card has become an extremely major issue! This is because simply by activating this card, you canTearlaments Kitkallossummon from the Extra Deck! Just like that! And once Kitkallos's effect has resolved, things usually look very grim for the opponent. The ban here is therefore more than justified. However, this hit alone will not be enough to stop Tearlaments!
And unfortunately, this is also the only card from this banlist that was actually banned! But let's also take a look at the limited cards!
2. Limited Edition Cards
Super Rare
King of the Swamp
(3 ⇒ 1)
And once again, Tearlaments is in the crosshairs! King of the Swamp has also been hit hard! A very popular card in Tearlaments. This card can be used as a substitute for a Fusion Material, you can discard it to search your deck for a Polymerization, and additionally, it is an Aqua-type, which is very helpful for certain Tearlaments Fusion Monsters. So, at first glance, that sounds like a very good hit against Tearlaments! Unfortunately, that's not the case. As well as King of the Swamp fits into the deck, it is by no means a mandatory card! There are plenty of Tearlaments players who don't even run a single copy of this card. So, once again, it's just a "token hit" from Konami.
Super Rare
Foolish Burial Goods
(3 ⇒ 1)
The effect of this card doesn't sound threatening at first, as it merely sends a Spell/Trap from the Deck to the Graveyard. However, the goal of the card is to send "Rainbow Bridge of Salvation" from the Deck to the Graveyard. When this happens, the effect of the Trap in the Graveyard allows you to add a Field Spell and a Crystal Beast from your Deck to your hand. This is, of course, about the Tearlaments Field Spell, which has already been limited to 1. Through Foolish Burial Goods, Tearlaments players were able to reach their Field Spell play relatively consistently. This hit will actually hurt Tearlaments players quite a bit!
3. Semi-Limited Cards
Ultra Rare
Defector
(1 ⇒ 2)
There is probably no Yu-Gi-Oh! fan who doesn't know this card! Change of Heart! A card that was banned not too long ago. Change of Heart is an extremely powerful, yet fair card in modern Yu-Gi-Oh! It's a very nice move by Konami to allow this card at 2! Perhaps we will see the day when this card finally comes off the banlist completely!
4. Unlimited
Ultra Rare
Sky Striker Ace - Kagari
(2 ⇒ 3)
Not too long ago, this card was limited to 1! Kagari at 3 is a truly massive boost for all Sky Striker players! Now the banlist looks even better for Sky Striker players than the TCG banlist! With Kagari at 3 and Engage at 2, the deck is definitely a threat once again! We are very excited to see what Sky Striker will achieve in the future!
Super Rare
Thunder Dragonhawk
(2 ⇒ 3)
Thunder Dragonhawk has finally made it off the banlist as well! Thunder Dragons are truly popular cards that are frequently played as an engine. In modern Yu-Gi-Oh!, they seem completely fair and do not pose a major threat. However, Thunder Dragon Colossus is still permitted! Thunder Dragon Colossus is a truly powerful and unfair card that has been causing players despair since day one. It would be no surprise if it were to be banned in the future!
Super Rare
Fire Formation - Tenki
(2 ⇒ 3)
This move was also quite predictable. There is currently no deck in the meta that relies on this card. Fire Formation - Tenki is a card we know very well from Tri-Brigade. It's great to see cards like this coming off the banlist to strengthen these now somewhat weaker decks!
Rare
Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm
(2 ⇒ 3)
Yet another card that was limited to 1 not too long ago! In the meantime, this monster has become so irrelevant (in the meta) that Konami has completely released it as well! At the moment, we're seeing pretty much no Pendulum decks out there anyway, so maybe this will change things at least a little bit!
➡️ Conclusion
We at God of Cards hold these Banlist all in all, a success. Konami ... has limited some problem cards quite sensibly and given other cards/decks a great opportunity with limit removals! In addition, one problem card has been completely removed! We are very excited to see what the Master Duel Community will make of it in the near future, and we are very excited to tell you all about it!
