What a banlist is & how it all began
In Year 2003 was this beautiful Card game at our place in Germany released. Since time immemorial, new ones are still being actively Maps or Sets released, and define the Meta happy to try again. Stronger ones keep coming Maps out, however there also exist Maps from the past, which only through Combination with the new Cards extremely strong or even completely unfair be.
Back then, when the whole thing was still relatively new and we were a fairly small Card pool had, it was no different. There were repeatedly too strong Single Cards, Combos, ill-conceived Card effects etc. given. Konami naturally had certain things relatively early Limited tickets, in such a way that they can no longer be used as, for example, 1 per deck was allowed to play, as they were simply too powerful.
Here we show you both the very first Banlist, as well as the reason behind it, and take a closer look at the topic of "BanlistorForbidden Cards" a.
The first banlist
In August 2004 arrived the first Banlist of Konami (TCG), which actually also cards banned has! Although there were already Ban lists, however, at that time no Maps actually banned/forbidden, but only limited. So that was the first time that Konami actually intervened forcefully, and for very good reasons!
In total, with the Banlist 13 cards forbidden. This means that you NOT in his Cover is allowed to have. So-called "prohibited" or "banned" Cards so you absolutely must not play. There are various reasons for this Konami conscience Maps prohibits. Usually, it is the case that simply too starke and mostly unforeseen Combinations arise, and with these Combinations decides the game for themselves in part. Sometimes, however, it is also simply about Maps, which are simply much too strong even on their own.
But let's go back to the very first Banlist of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in more detail!
Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End
This Dragon really changed everything back then. When you have this card and the legendary Blue-Eyes White Dragon comparing them with each other, you can see how quickly the game has actually developed. Chaos Emperor Dragon was featured in the game-changing set "Invasion of Chaos" published. However, he was not the only powerful Monster, or rather the only powerful card from the Set. This Set was a real challenge. But more on that another time.
What was the reason now, for which this dark dragon prohibited had to be?
Here is the explanation: Chaos Emperor Dragon was extremely easy to summon. You only had to 1 Light and 1 DARK Monster banish from the graveyard and he was already there! Even without further Effects it would have been quite strong for that time, but his incredibly strong Effect was simply too much.
Once per turn, you could 1000 Life Points pay, in order to ALL Maps to the Hands and Fields both Player to the Cemetery to place! Additionally, the Opponent then for each one in this way to the Cemetery laid card 300 points of damage received. How strong that was, or even would still be today, is probably clear to everyone by now at the latest.
But it didn't stop there either! As unrealistically strong as these Map alone, it got even worse. They simply took her with Sangan or Witch of the Black Forest combined. If one of the 2 mentioned Monster from Playing field on the Cemetery is placed, you can in fact from the Cover the following Monster pick up: "Yata-Garasu" !
And after that, it was Duel essentially finished. The opponent had no Maps in hand, and none on the field. If Yata-Garasu inflicts battle damage to the opponent, they must skip their Draw Phase. As a result, the opponent could no longer get new Maps ran, as you can with Yata-Garasu could attack the opponent directly in every turn.
Yata-Garasu
Here you can take a closer look at this map. In fact, Yata-Garasu with the same Banlist likewise banned, and is therefore the 2nd forbidden card in our list. Today is Yata-Garasu but (recently) allowed again, yet Konami proceed very carefully there anyway, because Yata-Garasu is on 1 limited!
Sangan
And just like that, we're at the 3. Map our List, which we also mentioned a bit further up, by the way. This refers to Sangan, the monster, which also belongs to the game-changing combination was part of it, and from Konami with this Ban list prohibited has been. If Sangan is sent from the field to the GY, you can Monsters with 1500 ATK or less take from the deck to the hand. Since Yata-Garasu only 200 ATK had, so it was a great combination.
Witch of the Black Forest
Whether Witch of the Black Forest or Sangan, both had that one at the time Task: be sent from the field to the graveyard in order to Yata-Garasu to be able to take from the deck to the hand. The Witch has almost the same Effect how Sangan. When it is sent from the field to the graveyard, you can Monsters with 1500 DEF or less take from the deck to the hand. The Yata-Garasu only 100 DEF has, has the Combo so also with the Witch works great. However, both the Witch, as well as Sangan were of course also without the Combination versatile.
Those were the 4 cards, which primarily due to the incredibly unfair Combination have been banned. Here are the remaining 9 cards of the first Banlist of Konami, which actually contains cards forbidden were. These were forbidden, because they are simply too good on their own Effects had. Quite without combinations.
Black hole
A powerful Spell Card, which you probably all know. Black hole has a very dull Effect: Destroy all monsters on the field. Back then, there was such a Effect quite intense. Today, this card isn't even limited. However, Black hole is still a pretty good card today, which you can find here and there in some Decks looks.
Raigeki
Almost the same Effect how Black Hole, but in most cases even better. Raigeki because it has all Monster destroyed on the opponent's side of the field. Your own Monster remained intact. Thus, the Map so pretty much always significantly more powerful than Black hole, and especially for that time, far too strong. Also Raigeki is allowed again today and not even limited. Nevertheless, it is Raigeki just like Black hole a Map, which you can find in one or the other Deck / Side Deck looks.
Rebirth
Also a very well-known Map, which among other things in the Anime occurred very often. With Rebirth or also known as "Monster Reborn" can you 1 Monster from the Cemetery summon any player's [monster/card] onto their own field. This allowed you to sometimes summon quite powerful Monster summon from the graveyard without having previously summoned them in the normal way. Back then, it was extremely powerful. Even today, this Map pretty good and on 1 limited, however, they can only be seen in a few Decks.
Together we are strong
The first Equip Spell Card, the forbidden was. This Map can you with a Monster in the field equip, which then 800 ATK x the number of monsters receives, which are controlled. So if you have 5 Monster had on the field (which was the maximum; today you can even 6 Monster check), received the Monster rich 4000 ATK. We at God of Cards are of the opinion that this Ban wasn't absolutely necessary, can take the step from Konami but still easy to follow. And yes, today is also this Map allowed & not limited, and is currently not in any relevant Cover played. Nevertheless, this is and remains Map one of the coolest Equip Spell Cards anyway, which still shouldn't be underestimated!
Harpie's Feather Duster
Actually, everyone should too Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan get to know. Whether from TCG or from the Anime! Harpie's Feather Duster, one of the strongest cards from Mai Valentine from the Anime. The Hand broom has a similar Effect how Raigeki. Only instead of monsters destroyed this card every Spell/Trap cards on the field of the opponent. So you could use both cards for the destroy the opponent's entire field. That this Effect we don't need to tell you that it was especially strong back then. However, it is Harpie's Feather Duster still a very strong and now to 1 limited Card that you can find in quite a few Decks or at least Side Decks sifted.
Elegant Benefactress
Draw 3 cards and then discard 2 cards! This Effect was already too good back then. Today he would be absolutely unfair, as there are far too many Maps exists, which their Effects activate as soon as they click on the Cemetery be dropped. Thus, one would therefore Draw 3 cards and as Bonus still Effects trigger. So we don't even need to mention here that this card still today forbidden is, and hopefully this will never change again!
Criminal Duo
Discard 2 cards from your opponent's hand for just 1000 measly Life PointsJust like that! Yes, that's exactly the Effect this Map. Far too strong, back then just as it is today. Criminal Duo remains so even today forbidden, and this will presumably & hopefully never change again!
Imperial Order
With the last 2 forbidden cards this list refers to Trap Cards. Imperial Order, a Permanent Trap Card, which urgently had to go! As long as this Map open on the Field is located, will be negates all spell effects on the field. The only Costs: In pay 700 Life Points during each Standby Phase. Magic cards are simply too important in far too many Decks. That's what they were back then, and that's what they still are today. Such a Map should therefore really not exist, and that is exactly why it still is even now prohibited.
Mirror Force
Now we have already reached the 13. and so with the last ones forbidden card from the first Konami's Banlist arrived! Mirror Force, the second and last Size chart this List was also not from at that time Konami spared. This strong Trap, which is also one of the best Trap Cards from Yami Yugi from the Anime is, destroys all of your opponent's monsters in Attack Position. You can only activate them when an opponent's monster attacks. So similar to Raigeki, just as Trap. We can certainly understand that Konami this card back then forbidden has. Today she isn't even limited, and is hardly seen at all, which we honestly think is a shame.
With a Banlist so in the end, it's about Balance ins Game to bring them in or to restore them. Because when such powerful Cards and/or Combinations exist, the fun of the game goes downhill very quickly. The whole thing isn't really fair anymore either. Therefore, such Ban lists extremely important, and must be updated every few months so that the Game can be balanced as well as possible. But a Subject we still have! Because Ban cards or limit is actually not the only one Method, at Balance into Game to bring in! Here we present the last Method ago.
Errata
We are ending this Blog so with the same Map view, with which we started. Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End
But why are we doing this? As we mentioned at the very beginning, this was Dragon one of the Main reasons for Konami with the prohibit to start. We have explained to you how strong and unfair this card is and would still be today, but Konami has found a way to also Maps to allow again!
Hold on tight, in case you didn't know, because these Map is now allowed and not even limited!!! But how can that be? She's too strong! Well, she just isn't anymore, because Konami simply the Effect the Map has changed. This Method is called "Errata. This means that Konami the Effect texts the Maps, which have an incredibly strong/unfair Effect have changed something, and the matter is resolved.
In this case, the entire Effect this card has remained the same, only has Konami a huge Disadvantage added. In the turn in which you Effect this Map activated, you are not allowed to either others Cards others Effects activate. Therefore, the Effect of Chaos Emperor Dragon the ONLY effect be, that one activates during this turn. This change has made this once incredibly powerful Monster more or less rendered useless. Especially now, when the Game is so advanced, you cannot afford to have only one Effect or a Map to activate. Chaos Emperor Dragon has probably not been in any since then Deck seen more.
In fact, there are also 2 more cards in this List, which by now don't even limited are, as they are a "Erratareceived. This is a Sangan and Witch of the Black Forest. For both, the Disadvantage added that you can Effect of the Monsters, which you can through the Effect of Sangan or the Witch taken from the Deck to the hand cannot be activated during this turn. In contrast to the Imperial Dragons both of them are still relatively playable. Especially Sangan is occasionally seen in one deck or another, though this is relatively rare.
➡️ Conclusion on Yu-Gi-Oh! Banlists
In summary: Yugioh Banlists are there to weaken overly powerful cards for duels or even eliminate them entirely, essentially making them unplayable. Due to new sets and releases, it is repeatedly necessary on Konami's part new blocklists to publish, so that the greatest possible balance between the various Decks is offered and the gameplay fun is maintained as much as possible.
