Part 2: The Different Spell and Trap Cards

In this part of the blog "How will Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG" is about the spell cards and trap cards. Here we explain how you can distinguish them!

1. Zauberkarten

God of Cards: Topf der Gier

You can easily recognize spell cards by their green color. In this illustration you can see a normal spell card. You can always activate them in your Main Phase.

Permanent Zauberkarten

You can recognize this by the small "infinity" sign at the top right (see arrow). Permanent spell cards can also only be activated during your Main Phase. These have the special feature that they also remain permanently on the field, until, for example, they are destroyed.

Ausrüstungszauberkarten

You can recognize this by the small "cross" at the top right of the map (see arrow). Again, you can only activate them during the main phase by targeting a monster on the field and equipping them with the monster. However, if the monster leaves the field, or is placed in the face-down defense position by a card effect, the equipment spell card will be destroyed and end up in the graveyard.

Spielfeldzauberkarten

The symbol looks relatively similar to that of the equipment spell card. In this case, however, it looks more like a ninja star (see arrow). You can also activate them only during your Main Phase, and only on the Field Magic Card Zone! These, too, remain permanently on the field until they are destroyed or eliminated in some other way.

Schnellzauberkarten

You can recognize them by the lightning-like symbol (see arrow). Quick spell cards are arguably the most popular and probably the most powerful among all spell cards! You can activate them at any stage of the game, even during your opponent's turn (in which case you must have set them face down beforehand). In addition, quick spell cards cannot be activated on the turn in which they were placed face down.

Ritualzauberkarten

You can easily recognize them by the "fire" symbol. Ritual spell cards are used to summon certain ritual monsters as ritual summons. You can also only activate them in your Main Phase.

2. Fallenkarten

God of Cards: Spiegekraft

You can easily recognize trap cards by their pink color. In this picture you can see a normal trap card. Trap cards must always be placed face down first, and may not be activated in the same turn in which they were placed.

Permanent Fallenkarten

These have the same symbol as the permanent spell cards (see arrow). Permanent trap cards are also not entirely different from the spell version. They remain on the field for an indefinite period of time. However, just like with a normal trap card, you first have to place them face down in order to be able to use them in the next turn

Konterfallenkarten

You can recognize them by the arrow next to the font "Trap Card". Counter traps are definitely the fastest cards in the game. You can only activate this in response to something specific (always in the effect text). However, no player can react to counter traps, except with counter traps! Here, too, the following applies: First bet face down in order to be able to activate in the next turn.
