Getting started with the Sword & Shield Base Set

The 8th generation of new Pokémon has arrived in the Pokémon TCG. Following record-breaking sales on the Nintendo Switch, Sword & Shield brought many changes and exciting new Pokémon. Originally released in Japan in early December 2019 as the dual sets Sword (s1W) and Shield (s1H), the set was officially launched on 7 February 2020 international in stores.

As a new cycle of sets always does its best to keep up with the latest Pokemon from new regions, the designers at the Pokemon Company had to decide on Sword & Shield consider new special variants for a higher power level. The translation of the Dynamax and Gigantamax mechanics from the video games thus brought Pokémon V and Pokemon VMAX stand out. Pokémon V no longer possess a unique Finisher, but can still deliver higher HP and impressive attacks for the price of 2 Prize cards per K.O. Additionally, these feature a striking design with a completely black border. Furthermore, these Pokemon can evolve one level further once they reach their Full Art VMAX Form transform.
